The Squiggy Classic

On March of 2005, the Wilderness Loop area was the site of the First Annual Squiggy Classic. This event was proposed to the WTA by the Hillsborough County Parks Department as a way to keep the park open the majority of the year for the general public by holding a multi faceted event on one weekend during the year. The usual practice was to shut the area down to the public while the individual groups held there events throughout the year. This event is also serves as a fund raiser for "Friends of the County Parks" which provides financial and community support for Hillsborough County parks and recreation departments. The sixth annual event will be held in April 2010. With all the belt tightening caused by budget cuts this fund raiser takes on a new significance. Keep up with the plans and activities of this special weekend by going to www.squiggyclassic.org for details on the event as it develops.

Bicycle Bash Classic

Beginning in November of 2010, the Flatwoods section of the park will play host to the "Bicycle Bash Classic" presented by Cure on Wheels and SWFBUD (Southwest Florida Bicycle United Dealers) groups. This 1 day "Everything Bicycle" event started back in 2006 and was held mostly in parks within Pinellas county. This year the event makes it's move to the Bicycle friendly Wilderness Parks and will showcase all kinds of biking events including on and off road guided rides.

Other Events

Besides the Squiggy Classic and the new Bicycle Bash Classic, there are many other events and activities, such as monthly guided rides, trail work days, and more, that are held at the Wilderness Parks that the WTA is involved in. Please check out our event calendar page HERE.
