The Squiggy 6 Hour Off-Road
Mountain Bike Challenge!
Usually held in early March, the annual Squiggy 6 Hour endurance
race has been held since 2004 within the Morris Bridge off-road
bicycle trails that are east of Morris bridge road. in 2010, Red
Trail Racing (www.redtrailracing.com) has
taken over promotion of the race from the "SWAMP Club" (www.swampclub.org) in association
with the WTA.
The race is popular as a very fast Cross Country race and
attracts riders of all skill levels from around the state. The
course changes slightly every year, but is always fun and fast. Like
most endurance races, there are several solo and team options to
participate in that are listed below:
solo men advanced, solo men beginner, solo
single speed, solo women
Team advanced, Team men beginner
<120 combined age, Team men Beginner >120 combined age, Team
Women, Team Co-Ed
Starting in 2010, the event has included a "Kids" race that
has two skill/age levels so riders of all ages can participate!
Yellow Wave - ages 3-7 is a short course for early riders and
includes tricycles and training wheels, Blue Wave - ages 8-14 is a
longer course for those with good bike skills that is a nice
challenge. The cost of the kids race is $10 and all who participate
receive a prize. The kids race is Sponsored by Trips for Kids Tampa
(www.mtbyouthride.org)
which is dedicated to helping at risk youth discover mountain bike
riding.
